Making Your Blog Private

It started as an online journal and now became a standard business tool. Way back in the year 2003 when Google bought Pyra Labs, the one who owned Blogger.com, a major site providing blog software and hosting, Google announced that there are already over a million hosted web logs in the early part of 2003.

Google’s interest in blogs demonstrates that blogs are exceptional. Today, it shows that it really was. Blog helps business owners in a lot of ways and almost everyone who owns a business would like to create his own blog — whether it be a private or public blog.

So what really is a private blog ?

A private blog is something you create for private use. In business, a private blog may be created for yourself and for your colleagues. These people include your business partners, suppliers, contractors, trusted employees, and other people whom you communicate daily about your business. A private blog can be a collaboration tool for a group that is working on achieving a certain goal. It is where you store information and tips, some notes from a previous meeting, project tasks and assignments, some bookmarks to important web links, updated price lists, and other things you want to make note of which are important to your business.

Having a private blog may be more useful than email because they are dated and organized by topics. It is also searchable and the message stays on the blog for easy referencing and tracking. You can post a message that everyone in the group can read and it is not deleted unlike the email. Using blog instead of an email for business communication also gives you more flexibility because, you can put videos and images on the blog so that everyone can have a whole picture of what you or other members want or need to communicate.

If you are using wordpress, there is an option to protect your blog so only authorized users can access it. All you have to do is log-in to your wordpress account, click on OPTIONS, then click on PRIVACY, then choose the second option.
