Easy Tips to Come-up with a Search-Engine Friendly Domain
A domain is what distinguishes your site on the web. It is a name you want to call your website. A good domain name should be short, easy to remember and as much as possible relevant to the theme of your website. Domain comes in a lot of different forms — .com (short for “commercial”), .net (for internet service provider), .org (organizations), .edu (short for educations), .gov (for government institutions), .tv(short for television), .mobi (short for mobile, website browsable on a mobile phone), .name (domain name after an individual), .biz (for companies), and many others.
Domain names now comes in very cheap prices from $3.00 to $25.00 per year depending on the form you would want to use. The problem is most of the one-word, easy-to-remember domains are now taken especially the .com’s and .net’s. But don’t worry, there is still something you can do to come-up with a domain that is search-engine friendly.
If you want to rank high in search engines, you may try to combine two to three keywords that your customers would be using to find your website. Example: if your site is all about dog food, the first domain name that will surely come-up with your mind may be dogfood.com. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, dogfood.com, dogfood.net, dogfood.biz, dogfood.info, dogfood.name, dogfood.us are already taken. So the best thing you can do is to add another word before or after these two-word combination –”dogfood” to produce some other domains which would still be search-engine friendly and relevant to your site. Some words you can add after “dogfood” are words like “site”, “shop”, “online”, “page”, “info”. Some words you may add before the “dogfood” can be “best”,”my”,”better”,”good”,”amazing” and other adjectives that may describe the products or services you are promoting. Using hyphens in between words would also make your domain more readable. So instead of having dogfoodshop.com, you can also have dog-food-shop.com. Domains with hyphens are proven to favor the search engines as well.
If you have a blog which is free hosted, securing a domain will add integrity to you as the owner. If you have a small business or promoting an on-line money-making program, a domain name is a must. After all, who would believe that you are making money on the programs that you are promoting if you cannot afford to buy yourself a domain? If you need a cheap and good domain name, start searching now before they are all gone.
